Ms. Mercer's Class Zips

Every week, Ms. Mercer’s DLP class visits the school library to read a story with Ms. Linss, and do a project relating to the story. This past week, the students listened to Zippy Zebra, the story of a zebra in a zoo who loves things that start with the letter ‘Z’. Ms. Mercer’s students did an exciting art project about Zippy Zebra in the zoo. For this project, the students pasted cutouts of zoo animals onto a piece of paper, pasted brown paper shaped like cages onto the animals, and then creatively decorated the zoo animals and the background. The students also had fun acting out a puppet show of Zippy Zebra. Ms. Mercer’s students can’t wait to see what fun and educational activity they will do next week!

Kindergarten Oceans

All eighty kindergartens recently went on a field trip to the Lake Theatre in downtown Oak Park. They went to see Disney’s Oceans during its opening week so, they helped raise money for preserving our oceans. Disney has promised to donate one dollar per ticket towards preserving the worlds’ oceans when anyone goes to see the movie on opening week. The movie used wonderful camerawork and followed the lives of certain underwater creatures. The kindergarten got to experience life as if they were living under the water. They helped the earth by walking, not taking the bus. In total they donated about eighty dollars.

Ms. Richardson's Class

Ms. Richardson’s class has recently been making a lot of spring projects. “We are making a project to go with the book, “The Five Little Ducklings.” They are preparing a song to go with it.

One of her students was very excited about Spirit Week. Kenai loved Spirit Week and was excited about the basketball game. During Spirit Week we had Career Day, Crazy Hair Day, Clash Day, Spirit Day we ended spirit week with the legendary Student vs. Staff Basketball Game.

Pets at Home and at School

The kindergarteners told us about class pets and pets at home. Dominic from Ms. Saliny’s class said he had pets at home. We learned that he has a responsibility of feeding his two ferrets named Max and Stall. He told us that he never forgets to feed them. Dominic must be very responsible!

Lucy informed us that Ms. Saliny’s class doesn’t have a class pet. Lucy has two cats at home, but she does not have the responsibility to feed them yet.

Isabel told us that Ms. Bernstein’s class has an exciting pet turtle named Shelly. Isabel has two pet goldfish at home named Rector and Jessica. Isabel confessed that she sometimes forgets to feed her pets and her mom has to remind her.

Jude is also from Ms. Bernstein’s class and informed us that he has a pet cat. Jude said, “I only give my cat food but I remind my mom to fill it [my cat’s bowl] up with water.”

It seems like these Kindergarteners have many responsibilities for their pets. Pets are fun to own but it’s important to remember to take care of them.

A Slow Race

Some Kindergarten classes have class pets and love them very much. Mrs. Bernstein and Mrs. Rose have pet turtles. One is named Shelly and the other Pokey. Even though turtles are known for being quite slow, the classes know they can be very exciting! On Thursday, March 25^th a turtle race took place between Shelly (Mrs. Bernstein’s turtle) and Pokey (Mrs. Rose’s turtle). Both classes attended this exciting event. Shelly won the race by a lot. Mrs. Rose’s class were really good sports about their loss. Thank you to Mr. Bishop for making the race track for the race!

Kindergarten Fun in Ms. Kelly's Class

In Ms. Kelly’s class they have been doing some art projects lately that Lauren really enjoyed. They have been working on making snowflakes. Cole said that they made snowflakes cutting shapes out of a sheet of paper. Lauren and Cole thought that the snowflakes were super fun and exciting. In Ms. Kelly’s class they have been learning how to read. Lauren thought the best thing about learning how to read is that you get to read new fun and exciting stories. Lauren thought the worst thing about learning how to read is that the stories did not have any princesses in them. Lauren, Cole and the rest of the children in Ms. Kelly’s class have lots of fun while learning new exciting things.
